In the recruitment process, manually selecting suitable candidates from curriculum vitae (CVs) for a job description (JD) is both time-consuming and expensive. Traditional keyword-based methods struggle to capture skill semantics, prompting the development of more advanced JD-CV matching systems. This paper aims to investigate and construct an ontology-based skills recommendation system, with objectives including creating a skills ontology and developing skills matching methods for JD-CV pairs. The objective of our approach is to enhance the accuracy and contextual relevance of recommendations (...) by utilizing the proposed score. The proposed skills ontology and skills matching strategies are applied to a real dataset in Vietnam. The results of our study can automatically recommend a list of CVs for a given JD. Furthermore, the findings indicate that our proposed model surpasses comparative approaches by a margin of at least 1% to 5%. Overall, the study demonstrates the potential of utilizing ontology-based approaches to offer a practical solution for enhancing hiring practices. (shrink)

Objectives: The official implementation of clinical pharmacy in Vietnam has arrived relatively late, resulting in various stressors. This study aims to evaluate job stress level and suggest viable solutions.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on clinical pharmacists in 128 hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City. Job stress questions were derived from the Healthcare Profession Stress Inventory.Results: A total of 197 CPs participated, giving a response rate of 82.4%. Participants were found to have moderate job stress with an overall mean stress (...) score of 1.5 and stress rate of 52.8%. The sample size was statistically adequate and the HPSI was valid and reliable. Patient care responsibility was the main stressor, especially in public hospitals, followed by job conflicts. Lack of experience, low income, and inability to participate in clinical ward rounds caused significant stress to CPs regarding job recognition and job uncertainty. More practice-oriented training programs in bachelor curricula and clinical practice should be applied to help CPs gain more experience, self-confidence, and diminish job stress.Conclusion: CPs in HCMC have moderate stress. More practice-oriented training programs should be prioritized to lessen stress for CPs. (shrink)

In this article, the author attempts to explain, the occurrence of Husserl and Heidegger's phenomenological interpretation of phenomenology there is a fundamental similarity. I have taken the approach is to analyze the phenomenology of Husserl and Heidegger's interpretation of the occurrence of the phenomenon of learning among the "place" concept. The author describes the place as a transcendental phenomenology of Husserl's main themes occur, and occur as the body phenomenology of Heidegger's interpretation of the main issues between the two fundamentally (...) identical. As between the two identical, Husserl's transcendental subjectivity as the transcendental place of the load are, in Heidegger's place as a body load there who have basically similar. Furthermore, Husserl and Heidegger on the concept of the world the concept of the transcendental field, as well as Husserl's "consciousness of the world and the occurrence of the construct" and Heidegger's "understanding and interpretation", a fundamentally similar. In this paper, I will attempt to show that there is a fundamental similarity between Husserl's genetic phenomenology and Heidegger's hermeneutic phenomenology. I will do this by analyzing the concept of "genesis" in Husserl's genetic phenomenology and also in Heidegger's hermeneutic phenomenology. I will show that there is a fundamental similarity between the transcendental genesis as the main topic of Husserl's genetic phenomenology and the ontological genesis as the main topic of Heidegger's hermeneutic phenomenology. Due to the similarity between them, there is a fundamental similarity between Husserl's transcendental subjectivity as the bearer of the transcendental genesis and Heidegger's Dasein as the bearer of the ontological genesis. This paper describes how bilingual colleagues living in Hong Kong make small talk in instant messaging to achieve various business-oriented goals and construct multiple identities in the discursive process. Guided by James Paul Gee’s revised framework of discourse analysis, the analyses evidenced that, overall, colleagues use small talk in instant messages to maintain minimal ties with distant partners, fill in silence during computer work, affect informal decision-making at work, and to diffuse useful surrounding information into business talk. These instances interplay (...) with different affordances provided by the gadgets in the instant messenger interfaces. Such creative usage, together with the perceived nature of online interaction and instant messaging, results in multiple and turbulent identities circulating in the broader context of workplace discourse. The article concludes by arguing that computer-mediated communication has offered participants an emerging modus of interacting socially, beyond the physical and psychological constraints of time and space. In this paper, I will examine the possibility of first philosophy from a phenomenological point of view. I will do this by assessing Levinas’s criticism of Husserl’s conception of first philosophy. In Sect. 1, I will delineate Husserl’s conception of first philosophy. In Sect. 2, I will introduce Levinas’s conception of ethics as first philosophy and sketch out his criticism of Husserl’s conception of first philosophy. In Sect. 3, I will assess Levinas’s criticism of Husserl’s conception and show that from (...) a phenomenological point of view, it is possible to develop first philosophy only in a relative sense and not in an absolute sense. The possibility of first philosophy in a relative sense implies that both Husserl’s and Levinas’s conceptions of first philosophy have some limitations and should be revised, since in a certain way, they are each conceived from an absolute point of view. In Sect. 4, I will show that the conception of first philosophy in a relative sense is a phenomenological one and sketch out some basic features of first philosophy in a relative sense. (shrink)

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between organizational ethical context and the individual ethical decision-making process. In addition, a new statistical approach combining cluster and discriminant analyses was developed to overcome violations of regression assumptions, which are commonly not identified and/or ignored in behavioral and psychological research. Using regressions and this new alternative method, the findings indicated that ethical context does indeed influence the various components of ethical reasoning. However, social desirability was the strongest predictor of (...) ethical decision making, which raises new concerns about how this bias can confound business ethics research. Finally, the findings showed that the alternative method provided more useful and interpretive results, indicating that it has the capacity to influence future empirical work in the field of business ethics, particularly when dealing with data that do not satisfy regression assumptions. The implications and limitations of the study are discussed, and several noteworthy suggestions for future research are provided. (shrink)

Professionals transitioning into a workplace face the challenge of socializing into their new working communities. One important factor in this process is humor. We present a case study of how a newcomer transitioning towards integral status interacts with the use of humor in her new workplace. Using the Communities of Practice framework, we examine workplace discourse collected from a new recruit, Emma, and her colleagues in a Hong Kong firm. The analysis portrays a picture of how humor is a critical (...) element as Emma negotiates relationships with other colleagues and works towards her assigned tasks. Findings suggest that humor can be an indicator to newcomers of appropriate or inappropriate behavior. Humor can be used for newcomers’ integration into the workplace; humor can be used by integral members to mold newcomers into the normative ways of doing things. We argue that humor may be used as a regulating and coping mechanism in workplace socialization. (shrink)

BackgroundThe research shows a growing trend in using an electronic platform to supplement or replace traditional paper-based informed consent processes. Instead of the traditionally written informed consent document, electronic informed consent may be used to assess the research subject’s comprehension of the information presented. By doing so, respect for persons as one of the research ethical principles can be upheld. Furthermore, these electronic methods may reduce potential airborne infection exposures, particularly during the pandemic, thereby adhering to the beneficence and nonmaleficence (...) principle. This scoping review aims to identify the ethics related criteria that have been included in electronic informed consent processes and to synthesize and map these criteria to research ethics principles, in order to identify the gaps, if any, in current electronic informed consent processes.MethodsThe search was performed based on internet search and three main databases: PubMed, SCOPUS and EBSCO. PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews : Checklist and Explanation guideline was used to report this work.ResultsOf 34 studies that met the inclusion criteria, 242 essential original constructs were collated, and 7 concepts were derived. Digital content showed the highest percentage of collated original constructs followed by accessibility, comprehension engagement, autonomy, confidentiality, language, and parental consent. Twenty-five new items were synthesized for eConsent criteria which may provide guidance for ethical review of research involving eConsent.ConclusionThe current study adds significant value to the corpus of knowledge in research ethics by providing ethical criteria on electronic informed consent based on evidence-based data. The new synthesized items in the criteria can be readily used as an initial guide by the IRB/rec members during a review process on electronic informed consent and useful to the future preparation of a checklist. IntroductionDuring the COVID-19 outbreak, many citizens were asked to stay at home in self-quarantine, which can pose a significant challenge with respect to remaining physically active and maintaining mental health. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of inadequate physical activity, anxiety, and depression and to explore the relationship of physical activity with anxiety and depression symptoms among Chinese college students during quarantine.MethodUsing a web-based cross-sectional survey, we collected data from 1,396 Chinese college students. Anxiety and depression were assessed with (...) the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale and the Self-Rating Depression Scale, respectively. The data on physical activity were collected by types of physical activity and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire.ResultsDuring the COVID-19 outbreak, about 52.3% of Chinese college students had inadequate physical activity. The rates of anxiety and depression symptoms were 31.0 and 41.8%, respectively. A high level of physical activity was significantly closely associated with low anxiety, while a moderate, or high level of physical activity was significantly closely associated with reduced depression after adjusting confounding demographic factors. Moreover, specific types of physical activity, such as stretching and resistance training, were negatively correlated with both anxiety and depression; doing household chores was negatively correlated with depression.ConclusionOur findings highlight specific levels and types of home-based physical activities that need to be taken into consideration to protect the mental health of college students during the COVID-19 epidemic. This paper applies a proposed modified stochastic fractal search algorithm (MSFS) for dealing with all constraints of optimal reactive power dispatch (ORPD) and finding optimal solutions for three different cases including power loss optimization, voltage deviation optimization, and L-index optimization. The proposed MSFS method is newly constructed in the paper by modifying three new solution update mechanisms on standard stochastic fractal search algorithm (SSFS). The first modification is to keep only one formula and abandon one formula in the diffusion process (...) while the second modification and the third modification are used in the first update and the second update. In two updates of SSFS, solutions with low quality are updated with high probability while other solutions with high quality do not get chances to be updated. This manner results in the fact that some promising solutions around the high quality solutions can be missed. In order to tackle this restriction, the second modification of MSFS is to newly update the worst solutions in the first update and the best solutions in the second update. In the third modification, all existing formulas of SSFS in the two updates are abandoned and the same new proposed technique is used for updating such solutions in two updates. Compared to SSFS, the three modifications can bring advantages to MSFS such as using smaller number of produced solutions per iteration, spending shorter execution time, finding better optimal solutions, and owning more stable search ability. Furthermore, the proposed method also sees its effectiveness and robustness over SSFS by testing on IEEE 30-bus system and IEEE 118-bus system with three different single objectives for each system. The proposed method can find less minimum, average, and maximum for all the cases in addition to faster search speed. Besides, the proposed method is also compared to other methods such as PSO-based method group, GA-based method group, DE-based method group, and other recent methods. Result comparisons also indicate that the proposed method can be more efficient than almost all these methods with respect to less minimum and smaller values of control parameters. As a result, evaluation of the performance of the proposed method is that it should be used for seeking solutions of ORPD problem. (shrink)

Sợ hãi là một trong những cảm xúc phổ biến nhất ảnh hưởng đến hành vi của nhà đầu tư cá nhân trên thị trường chứng khoán. Mặc dù nhiều nghiên cứu đã được thực hiện để khám phá tác động của nỗi sợ hãi đối với hiệu quả đầu tư và hành vi giao dịch của nhà đầu tư cá (...) nhân, nhưng vẫn còn rất ít thông tin về các yếu tố ảnh hưởng đến nỗi sợ hãi của nhà đầu tư cá nhân trong thời kỳ thị trường sụt giảm (hoặc những giai đoạn cực kỳ biến động). Vì thế, nghiên cứu này được thực hiện để tìm hiểu liệu các nguồn thông tin ảnh hưởng đến quyết định đầu tư của nhà đầu tư có ảnh hưởng đến sự sợ hãi của họ khi khủng hoảng xảy ra hay không. Nghiên cứu đã sử dụng phương pháp phân tích Bayesian Mindsponge Framework (BMF) trên bộ dữ liệu từ 1526 nhà đầu tư Trung Quốc và Việt Nam. Kết quả nghiên cứu chỉ ra rằng các nhà đầu tư tiếp cận các loại thông tin khác nhau khi đưa ra quyết định đầu tư sẽ ảnh hưởng đến tần suất phản ứng sợ hãi khác nhau. Cụ thể, các nhà đầu tư tham khảo thông tin từ chuyên gia hoặc tự phân tích khi đưa ra quyết định đầu tư ít bị đóng băng (biểu hiện của tâm lý sợ hãi) hơn trong thời kỳ thị trường sụt giảm. Ngược lại, những người đưa ra quyết định đầu tư dựa trên thông tin từ người quen hay bạn bè và trực giác sẽ bị đóng băng thường xuyên hơn. Within minority groups searching for their cultural identity, establishing self-identity is an important process. For various psychological and sociological reasons, artists seem inspired to seek deeper meaning (...) and a broader participation in cultural work.1 Asian American women artists, in particular, are currently making art as a means of exploring self-identity, cultural identity, and gender issues. Korean/Korean American minority women artists are creating art as a reaction to their cultural upbringing, which questions issues of identity, gender, ethnicity, politics, cultural, and socioeconomic status. These contemporary artists are breaking away from traditional cultural expectations and overcoming social barriers as artists, women, and Koreans/Korean Americans. With the growing public awareness of women's consciousness and sense of self as women in Korea and as an ethnic minority in America, these artists are redefining their identity. Despite the traditional patriarchal Confucian hierarchy; lack of social, institutional, and political support; and stereotypic gender, cultural, and socioeconomic status expectations for women, a few have stepped out of their traditional roles as women and have become successful artists in Korea and America.The artworks of these artists are worthy of investigation because they appear to be a culturally, socially, and politically motivated artistic expression of the complex multifaceted Korean/Korean American life experiences as women and as Korean immigrant members of a cultural (ethnic) minority in American society. Therefore, two main research questions can be posed: [End Page 71]• Given that art can be constructed out of layers of different experiences and influences, to what extent do the dimensions of cultural identity, self-identity, and gender interweave and contribute to the function of art as a political act for Korean/Korean American women artists?• How do Korean/Korean American cultural, social, and female experiences influence the artistic expression of Korean/Korean American women artists?In order to answer these questions, I selected case study methodology2 and adapted elements of interpretive biography,3 and narrative approaches as developed by Wallace and Gruber.4 According to Denzin,5 interpretive biography involves the collection and analysis of personal experiences, life documents, stories, accounts, and narratives that describe turning-point moments in individuals' lives. Denzin argues that personal experiences and personal stories are derived from a larger cultural, ideological, and historical context. The intent of the biographical project is to problematize the social, economic, cultural, structural, and historical forces that shape, distort, and otherwise alter lived experiences.By using narrative case study methods, I explore elements of self-identity formation, cultural identity, gender issues, personal thoughts, artistic expression, meaning of artworks, professional achievement, and life circumstances. I examine each participant's life in the Korean and American historical, cultural, social, and political environments. I interpret participants' outer lives (what they do) and inner lives (feelings, thoughts, inner self) to capture their deep, profound life experiences. I examine salient themes of their art expression and how the role of art and artistic activity is a part of political, cultural, social, and feminist activism. I further investigate their professional activities in order to identify the multiple roles that contribute to personal and professional identity formation.For the purpose of this study, I selected the contemporary Korean woman artist Suk Nam Yun and the contemporary Korean American woman artist Yong Soon Min as primary participants. Background Visual atypicalities in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are a well documented phenomenon, beginning as early as 2–6 months of age and manifesting in a significantly decreased attention to the eyes, direct gaze and socially salient information. Early emerging neurobiological deficits in perceiving social stimuli as rewarding or its active avoidance due to the anxiety it entails have been widely purported as potential reasons for this atypicality. Parallel research evidence also points to the significant benefits of animal presence for reducing (...) social anxiety and enhancing social interaction in children with autism. While atypicality in social attention in ASD has been widely substantiated, whether this atypicality persists equally across species types or is confined to humans has not been a key focus of research insofar. Methods We attempted a comprehensive examination of the differences in visual attention to static images of human and animal faces (40 images; 20 human faces and 20 animal faces) among children with ASD using an eye tracking paradigm. 44 children (ASD n = 21; TD n = 23) participated in the study (10,362 valid observations) across five regions of interest (left eye, right eye, eye region, face and screen). Results Results obtained revealed significantly greater social attention across human and animal stimuli in typical controls when compared to children with ASD. However in children with ASD, a significantly greater attention allocation was seen to animal faces and eye region and lesser attention to the animal mouth when compared to human faces, indicative of a clear attentional preference to socially salient regions of animal stimuli. The positive attentional bias toward animals was also seen in terms of a significantly greater visual attention to direct gaze in animal images. Conclusion Our results suggest the possibility that atypicalities in social attention in ASD may not be uniform across species. It adds to the current neural and biomarker evidence base of the potentially greater social reward processing and lesser social anxiety underlying animal stimuli as compared to human stimuli in children with ASD. New energy vehicle is an innovative means of transportation, and its development has been widely concerned all over the world. However, few studies investigate the purchase intention of new energy vehicles from the perspective of combining altruism and cultural factors. Based on the extended norm activation model, this study explores the influencing factors of NEVs’ purchasing intention and the moderating effects of “mianzi” and green peer influence. According to 302 valid questionnaires, the results indicated that the extended NAM model is (...) useful in predicting consumer purchasing behavior with an improved explanatory power in purchase intentions of NEVs from 15 to 26%. The awareness of consequences, the ascription of responsibility, and green self-identity have a positive impact on the personal norm. Personal norm and green self-identity are positively associated with purchase intention. “Mianzi” and green peer influence positively moderate the relationship between green self-identity and intention to purchase. The findings give new insights into the impact of cultural factors on purchasing NEVs and profound suggestions for policymakers and enterprises to promote the development of NEVs. (shrink)

Siedem studiów filozoficznych (2021), dotyczące tej części metafizyki, którą w terminologii scholastycznejokreślano jako filozofię Boga, a obecnie umiejscawia się ją w obrębie teologii filozoficznej lub filozofii religii. Koncentruję się na trzech pytaniach: 1) jak odróżnić badania w zakresie filozofii religii od badań w naukach o religii; 2) czy typowe dla znacznej liczby filozofów religii ograniczanie badań do monoteizmu w największych religiach świata, a w kwestiach bardziej szczegółowych (...) do chrześcijaństwa, można przekonująco uzasadnić bez ujawniania ich własnych przekonań w sprawie religii; 3) czy klasyczny teizm stanowi właściwą artykulację chrześcijańskiego znaczenia słowa „Bóg”. W odpowiedzi na pierwsze pytanie twierdzę, że filozofem religii jest ten, kto bezpośrednio lub pośrednio zajmuje pozytywne lub negatywne stanowisko w sprawie kognitywnego charakteru, a zwłaszcza prawdziwości (Kleszcz wolałby powiedzieć: „uzasadnienia”) wierzeń czy doświadczeń religijnych. Na drugie pytanie, inaczej niż Kleszcz, odpowiadam negatywnie: ujawnienie przez filozofa własnego stosunku do religii nie niweczy ideału obiektywności, natomiast promuje uczciwość wobec czytelników i eliminuje pewien rodzaj teoretycznej hipokryzji spotykany u zwolenników filozofii uprawianej w sposób rzekomo neutralny względem własnych przekonań. Moja odpowiedź na trzecie pytanie jest także negatywna. Potrzebna jest nam dzisiaj mniej zachowawcza, odważniejsza w swoich roszczeniach filozofia religii niż ta proponowana przez Ryszarda Kleszcza — taka mianowicie, która naśladuje sposób uprawiania filozofii przez dawnych mistrzów, np. przez św. Tomasza z Akwinu, polegający na poszukiwaniu filozoficznych podstaw dla chrześcijaństwa, a nie taka, która uznaje wyniki ich ustaleń, np. w kwestii natury Boga, za zasadniczo ostateczne, a korygowalne jedynie w drobnych szczegółach. Hospital acquired infections (HAIs) are a major threat to patient safety. This paper addresses the following question: given what is known about the causes of and possible interventions on HAIs, to whom or what should the moral responsibility for preventing these infections be attributed? First, we show how generating robust evidence on the effectiveness of preventive hygiene measures is a complex endeavour and review the existing evidence on the causes of HAIs. Second, we demonstrate that the existing literature on the (...) ethical aspects of infection control has focused on responsibility at the individual-level. Thirdly, we argue that these accounts do not accommodate systemic factors relevant for HAI prevention. We show that the notion of collective responsibility is useful for making understandable how systemic factors, such as employment conditions in hospitals, are both causally and ethically relevant in infection control. W zasadniczej mierze spowodowane jest to niespotykaną dotąd dynamiką przemian społecznych z jej globalnymi ekonomicznymi, politycznymi i ekologicznymi konsekwencjami. Kluczowe pytania wymuszane przez dynamikę społecznej transformacji dotyczą globalizacji, a w jej kontekście tożsamości narodowej, demokracji, wolności, środowiskowych i politycznych zagrożeń globalnych, kultury, wartości, czyli kwestii, które będą wytyczać obszar najistotniejszych problemów filozoficznych w nadchodzącym czasie. Najistotniejszych, albowiem wszystkich nas wprost dotykających, najbardziej odczuwalnych, najważniejszych dla „spójnego poczucia (...) bycia w świecie”. Celem artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na wzrastającą rangę zagadnień społecznych, a co za tym idzie - wskazanie na kwestie filozoficzne, które pojawiają się w ich kontekście. Wydaje się, że zmiany społeczne wymuszają refleksję nie tylko nad tym, co stricte społeczne, ale również nad tym, co bardziej ogólne. Wraz ze wzrastającą rangą zagadnień społecznych rośnie znaczenie pytań podstawowych. (shrink)

Mimo komplikacji, jakie niosą ze sobą współczesne dynamiczne realia zżycia, nie rezygnujemy jednak z poszukiwań. Dalej wytrwale poszukujemy dobrej odpowiedzi na pytanie: „co to znaczy» byś sobą«?”. Dalej zaprzątają nas warunki konieczne zachowania osobowej tożsamości. Dalej próbujemy określić granice zmian, które jesteśmy w stanie tolerować bez ryzyka utraty tożsamości. Dalej nie jest nam obojętne, kim jesteśmy lub kim się stajemy. (...) W zamieszczonym niżej artykule, inspirowanym m.in. badaniami z zakresu współczesnych neuronauk, szkicuje pewna filozoficzna propozycje zmierzenia się z wyżej wymienionymi pytaniami - propozycje, która co prawda powstała przeszło 60 lat temu, lecz która zarazem nic zgoła nie straciła na aktualności. Pretekstem do naszego dwugłosu jest lektura książki Zygmunta Baumana i Davida Lyona pt. Płynna inwigilacja. Rozmowy. Obaj wybitni socjologowie w powszechnej inwigilacji dostrzegają wielkie zagrożenie dla ludzkiej wolności. Tę katastroficzną wizję staramy się złagodzić, wskazując na biologiczne, psychologiczne i kulturowe funkcje zjawiska „podglądania”. Bronimy tezy, iż społeczne istnienie polega w gruncie rzeczy na tym, by „widzieć - i być widzianym”. Pierwsza wypowiedź koncentruje się na zjawisku „podglądania” występującym w samej przyrodzie, a służącym głównie celom reprodukcji gatunkowej. Ponadto, wbrew obiegowemu stanowisku, (...) to nie tylko człowiek postrzega swoje środowisko naturalne, ale też i ono „patrzy” na niego. Właśnie dzięki tej wzajemnej widzialności możliwe jest przetrwanie człowieka, jak również ludzkie działania zmierzające do przekształcania otoczenia. Wypowiedź druga dotyczy kwestii wzajemnego postrzegania się ludzi. Patrzenie na siebie przybiera wiele rozmaitych form: przyglądania, doglądania, wyglądania, zaglądania itp. Wszystkie one są wartościowane pozytywnie jako niezbędne dla poznania. U navedenim su djelima vrlina i sreća teme kojih se Petrić dotiče samo usput. U Barignanu, dijalogu o časti, tematizira se odnos vrline i časti. Deset dijaloga o povijesti donosi (...) nam kratku raspravu o ostvarenju sreće, kao podtemu raspravi o svrsi povijesti. U Deset dijaloga o retorici Petrić kratko raspravlja o povezanosti pohvale i vrline te o različitosti izvora vrline i dobra. Palermo Cathedral is one of the Normans’ most important architectural accomplishments in Southern Italy. Begun as a church, it was transformed into a mosque during the Muslim occupation (827–1061), and was then converted back to a Christian rite when the Normans conquered Palermo in 1072. Though transformed yet again in the neo-classical style in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, the church that stands today is unanimously considered to be that rebuilt by Archbishop Walter ii Protofamiliarios and consecrated in (...) 1185. A critical and detailed analysis of near-contemporary sources for the conquest of Palermo and the conversion of the mosque into a church under the patronage of the Norman duke, Robert Guiscard, sheds new light on this fascinating palimpsest of a building. Reinterpretation of the primary sources discovers a hidden and hitherto overlooked phase of construction, and clears the field of misunderstandings and doubts. A new edifice emerges – a material sign of Christian worship in recently conquered Muslim Palermo – that offers a fresh perspective on the cathedral at the time of the coronation of King Roger ii in 1130. W artykule podejmuję zagadnienie relacji między charakterem filozofii Alfreda Northa Whiteheada i Bertranda Russella a intensywnymi transformującymi przeżyciami tych myślicieli, spowodowanymi przez pewne jednostkowe zdarzenia. Według Russella, taki właśnie charakter miało w jego życiu doświadczenie wywołane mocnym napadem bólu Evelyn Whitehead, żony Alfreda, w lutym 1901 r. W zdarzeniu tym uczestniczył też dwuipółletni syn Whiteheada, Eryk. Russell twierdzi, że doznał wówczas czegoś w rodzaju mistycznej iluminacji, która w przeciągu około pięciu minut całkowicie zmieniła jego dotychczasowy sposób myślenia: m.in. wyposażyła jego (...) ateizm w imperatyw przeciwstawiania się wszystkiemu, co powoduje ludzkie cierpienia, zwłaszcza cierpienia dzieci, i skłoniła go do bezkompromisowego pacyfizmu. Dla powściągliwego w ujawnianiu swoich przeżyć Whiteheada, podobnym doświadczeniem była śmierć osiemnastoletniego Eryka pod koniec pierwszej wojny światowej. En este trabajo analizamos las relaciones de complementación en la lengua toba hablada en el este de la provincia de Formosa en estrecha correlación con construcciones seriales simétricas. Se trata de dos tipos de cláusulas complejas cercanas –argumentos compartidos, los dos o más verbos son finitos, no existe marca evidente de subordinación en términos sintácticos– por lo cual los límites entre ambas no resultan evidentes. Por este motivo, proponemos un abordaje de tipo funcional de la subordinación. En línea con la (...) propuesta de Cristófaro, entendemos la subordinación como una relación asimétrica entre dos eventos y no como un tipo específico de cláusula. Proponemos que no existe la complementación en esta lengua como tipo de cláusula y que la “incrustación” no es un criterio que nos permita abordar el fenómeno. El corpus se compone de cinco horas de texto libre narrativo relevado en sucesivos trabajos de campo en las comunidades tobas de Barrio Nam Qom y la ex Colonia secular Bartolomé de Las Casas. Communicative acts of some women are perpetuating the dominance that DTM have over both women and OTM. Some women use language in a disdainful manner to reprimand oppressed men’s behavior in daily life situations, the same behavior that such women would not reproach to DTM. But NAM are reacting to this. This article analyzes the communicative acts employed in all these situations, both those produced by women and DTM, as well as NAM’s communicative acts in response to those offenses. Data (...) was collected using communicative daily life stories of give women and three men with diverse profiles and different levels of participation in women’s and men’s movements. Findings highlight, from the transformative dimension of the communicative methodology, that the use of language of desire in NAM’s reactions is effective not only to make justice with men who have never executed violence on women, but also to undermine the attractiveness of both DTM’s behavior and the comments of some women on such behavior. These findings complement previous research on preventive socialization of gender violence by broadening scientific knowledge on NAM’s communicative acts that prevent and eradicate gender-based violence. Further research ought to broaden the evidence of how some women who defend feminist values sometimes do not support and even tease or reprimand men who practice these values; moreover, an important line could analyze the way people talk about men with NAM attitudes to hold back reprimands in comparison to how people talk about men who follow a DTM model. Aby zrozumieć tę przemianę, należy ponownie zbadać mechanizmy zbieżności opinii. Wynika ona z istnienia wspólnego świata, który ukazuje nam te same fakty i determinuje nieustanną rewizję przekonań każdej osoby. Stronniczość tkwiąca w naturze ludzkiej, a szczególnie potwierdzenie tej stronniczości, prowadzi do odwrócenia relacji między faktami a opiniami. Szukamy faktów potwierdzających podzielane przez nas opinie, wątpiąc w te, które ich nie określają, i tworzymy fakty do potwierdzenia tego, o czym jesteśmy przekonani. Dlatego przechodzimy od współdziałania do przynależności, dzieląc Internet na homogeniczne grupy wyznawców. (shrink)

Wyobraźmy sobie następującą scenę. Oto pewien czcigodnie wyglądający, zatopiony w filozoficznych rozmyślaniach mąż stoi nad malowniczą, skalistą zatoką w starożytnej Grecji. Zatoka ta była już wcześniej teatrem wielu morskich potyczek, w których Ateńczycy zmagali się z wrogami. Jej obraz naturalnie nasuwa zatem skojarzenia z minionymi wydarzeniami batalistycznymi. Wtedy to Arystoteles - bo on jest właśnie tym czcigodnym mężem - pod wpływem tej scenerii oraz kultywowanego w ówczesnej Grecji bios theoretikós, zadaje sobie słynne pytanie: czy jutro będzie bitwa morska? Niniejsza praca (...) jest poświęcona jednemu z najbardziej znanych rozumowań greckiego logika i filozofa Diodora Kronosa. Rozumowanie to nazwano rozumowaniem mistrza lub mistrzowskim prawdopodobnie z racji siły, z jaką oddziaływało na słuchaczy. Jak się wydaje, celem rozumowania mistrza było uzasadnienie przekonania, że w świecie empirii nie istnieją czyste możliwości, a więc że to, co jest możliwe, musi się kiedyś zdarzyć. To z kolei sugeruje jakąś formę determinizmu: skoro nie ma możliwości, które nie są i nigdy nie będą zrealizowane. Rozumowanie Diodora nie przetrwało do naszych czasów. Znamy je jedynie z przekazów, które dość lakonicznie opisują jego przedmiot, przesłanki oraz tezę. Jest wiele powodów, nie tylko historycznych, aby sądzić, że Diodor swoim rozumowaniem polemizuje z Arystotelesem. Stagiryta bowiem w swoich klasycznych rozważaniach na temat jutrzejszej bitwy morskiej bronił indeterminizmu, dopuszczając czyste możliwości, a więc zarówno to, że możliwe, iż bitwa morska się zdarzy, jak i to, że możliwe, iż bitwa morska się nie zdarzy. Z tych powodów próba rekonstrukcji oraz analizy rozumowania Diodora powinna nawiązywać do rozważań Arystotelesa, jako że obydwaj myśliciele mają odmienne zdanie na ten sam przedmiot - naturę możliwości, przyszłości i determinizmu, pozostając jednocześnie w ramach tego samego, starożytnego, logiczno-filozoficznego paradygmatu rozważań. Książka nie ma jednak charakteru wyłącznie historycznego. Historia starożytnych rozważań, często przecież nie do końca nam znana lub znana z komentarzy późniejszych doksografów, jest jedynie tłem rozważań bardziej współczesnych. Rozważania te, korzystając z ustaleń filozofii analitycznej oraz narzędzi logiki formalnej, niekiedy mogą nie być nawet wierne kwestiom historycznym, lecz mogą rozwijać elementy merytoryczne, które zostały wyeksponowane przez źródła historyczne. Wybór Leszna na kolejną konferencję Komisji Historii Czech i Stosunków Polski Czeskich PAN nie jest przypadkowy. To miasto od samych początków związało swoją historię z narodem czeskim i jego wybitnymi przedstawicielami. Już w podaniu herbowym rodziny Leszczyńskich, pieczętujących się herbem Wieniawa, znajdują się wątki czeskie1. Według legendy protoplastą rodu był pochodzący z Czech rycerz Wieniawa. Należał on do orszaku księżnej Dąbrówki i z nią podróżował z Pragi do Poznania, gdzie władczyni miała poślubić polskiego księcia Mieszka. Kiedy przejeżdżali przez gęste lasy, (...) orszak został zaatakowany przez groźnego byka. Mężny rycerz Wieniawa pokonał zwierzę i uratował księżną. W nagrodę otrzymał tamtejsze ziemie na własność oraz herb z przedstawieniem głowy byka z kółkiem w nosie. Tyle mówi nam legenda. (shrink)

Artykuł przedstawia analizę historii zakończeń dwóch wierszy Anny Kamieńskiej – „Kiedy odchodzą wielcy” oraz „Jesteś mi ciepły młody”. Znane nam dokumenty literackie pozwalają znaleźć wspólny element tych dwóch procesów, z których jeden polegał na nieoczekiwanym dopisaniem puenty do ostatniej znanej nam wersji rękopiśmiennej wiersza, a drugi puentą uczynił w ostatnim etapie prac nad utworem zapis ze środka wcześniejszego brulionu. Tą częścią wspólną jest medytacyjny, nieretoryczny charakter warsztatu pisarskiego dojrzałej poetki. Jeśli pominąć oczywiste różnicy między obiema wierszami i procesami, z których (...) się wyłoniły, pozostanie silne podobieństwo, prawdopodobnie cecha charakterystyczna dla sposobu, w jaki pisała Anna Kamieńska przynajmniej od lat sześćdziesiątych minionego wieku, gdy proces twórczy był dla niej nie tyle okazją do znalezienia formy myśli, ale sam był myślorodny. Williamsa z artykułu Wewnętrzne i zewnętrzne racje do działania bywają odrzucane jako zbyt trywialne, aby mieć jakąś doniosłość; czasem są odrzucane jako zbyt niebezpieczne, aby być prawdziwymi. Prawda, jak zwykle, leży gdzieś pośrodku. Williams ma coś ważnego do powiedzenia nam, lecz nie jest to coś, co mogłoby przewrócić nasz świat do góry nogami. Przeciwnie, może dostarczyć mu bardziej stabilnego fundamentu.

Some feminist discourses blame some men for gender inequality, gender domination, and gender-based violence. Some women use such discourse as a perfect scenario to criticize some men’s behavior. Therefore, New Alternative Masculinities reject being indicated as guilty of the violence committed against women by DTM. Through a communicative approach, applying six semi-structured interviews with a communicative orientation and a communicative data analysis of all information, this article explores both women’s communicative acts that blame OTM for what DTM have done to women and NAM’s reactions to these accusations to stop such blaming to make it possible to overcome hegemonic discourses. Tekst ten jest zapisem wykładu wygłoszonego przez Williamsa w Królewskim Instytucie Filozofii 23 lutego 2000 r., na trzy lata przed śmiercią. Jest on swoistym testamentem filozoficznym autora Ethics and the Limits of Philosophy, w którym przedstawia swoją wizję filozofiijako dziedziny humanistycznej. Zdaniem Williamsa istnieją poważne racje uzasadniające odrzucenie radykalnych stanowisk metafilozoficznych, takich jak scjentyzm, relatywizm czy pragmatyzm. Zwolennicy tych stanowisk zapoznają istotne różnice między filozofią i nauką, a przez to nie potrafią sformułować takiego obrazu świata, który umożliwiłby nam sensowne rozumienie (...) nas samych i naszych różnorodnych aktywności intelektualnych i praktycznych. Podstawowym błędem jest tutaj zignorowanie faktu, że nauka dysponuje teorią błędu, pozwalającą zinterpretować jej rozwój jako dokonujący się za pośrednictwem racji poznawczych, podczas gdy koncepcje filozoficzne podlegają rozmaitym pozapoznawczym uwarunkowaniom, zwłaszcza determinacji poprzez historię i kulturę. Według Williamsa nie jest to jednak powód do odrzucenia filozofii. Jakkolwiek nauka góruje nad filozofią w aspekcie poznawczym, to nie jest ona w stanie dostarczyć nam bogatego samorozumienia, co może i powinno stać się celem filozofii, jeżeli tylko odrzucimy próby upodobnienia jej do nauki i skupimy się na najważniejszych faktach dotyczących istot ludzkich. Niejesteśmy bowiem czysto racjonalnymi inteligencjami, lecz raczej istotami z krwi i kości, ukształtowanymi przez naszą biologię, psychologię, historię i kulturę, istotami mającymi wiele złożonych potrzeb, których nie da się zredukować do potrzeb czysto poznawczych. V následujícím textu nejprve zařadíme Kantovo dílo do kontextu osvícenské filosofie a přiblížíme jeho náhled na některé otázky tehdejší metafyziky a přírodní filosofie. Poté se zaměříme zejména na Kantovu svéráznou koncepci prostoru a času v rámci transcendentální estetiky a transcendentální logiky, kterou Kant systematicky představil v Kritice čistého rozumu. Následně přezkoumáme hlavní námitky, které filosofové i vědci vůči této koncepci vznesli. To nám pak bude odrazovým můstkem k závěrečné debatě o vztahu fyzikálních pojmů a teorií k metafyzice.

[…] Głównym wnioskiem płynącym z niniejszej próby syntetycznego zestawienia wybranych analogii pomiędzy sceptyczną a Nietzscheańską krytyką poznania jest, iż rzeczonych krytyk nie należy traktować jako rozważań jałowych, nieproduktywnych czy wręcz czysto destruktywnych. Podnosząc problem konstruowania świata, obie krytyki zwiększyły bowiem naszą samoświadomość interpretacji. Jeżeli zaś sceptycy i Nietzsche zgadzają się w tym, iż dostępne nam są jedynie perspektywiczne przekłamania rzeczywistości, a nie „prawdziwa rzeczywistość”, to oba projekty łączy gruntowna krytyka naiwnego realizmu. […] pragniemy podkreślić – wbrew wielokrotnie wygłaszanym sądom, podług (...) których sceptycyzm był przejawem upadku greckiej myśli – iż naszym zdaniem sceptycyzm jest jednym z najważniejszych wydarzeń nie tylko w historii filozofii starożytnej, ale w dziejach historii filozofii w ogóle. Kritičko čitanje Alchourrónove i Bulyginove skupovnoteorijske defnicije normativnoga sustava pokazuje da njegova deduktivna zatvorenost nije neizbježno svojstvo. Slijedeći von Wrightovu pretpostavku da aksiomi standardne deontične logike opisuju svojstva savršenoga normativnog sustava, uvodi se algoritam za prevođenje iz modalnoga u skupovnoteorijski jezik. Prijevod nam otkriva da plauzibilnost pojedinih metanormativnih načela leži na različitim osnovama. Koristeći se metodološkim pristupom koji prepoznaje različite aktere u normama upravljanome međudjelovanju, pokazuje se da su metanormativna načela obveze drugoga reda upućene različitim ulogama. Poseban slučaj jest zahtjev (...) koji se odnosi na deduktivnu zatvorenost jer se pokazuje da je upućen ulozi koja primjenjuje, a ne onoj koja izdaje norme. Pristup je primijenjen i na slučaj čiste derogacije, što dovodi do novoga rezultata; svojstvo neovisnosti biva svojstvom savršenoga normativnog sustava u odnosu na moguću derogaciju. We współczesnych dyskusjach dotyczących szczegółowych zagadnień z zakresu etyki medycznej sporo uwagi poświęca się kwestii odstąpienia od interwencji medycznej lub zasadności stosowania pewnych rodzajów terapii nie rokujących poprawy stanu zdrowia chorej osoby. W publikacjach autorów chrześcijańskich tematyka ta nie zajmowała nigdy centralnego miejsca, aczkolwiek różnego typu kwestie dotyczące kontynuacji bądź przerwania leczenia znaleźć można już na kartach wczesnochrześcijańskich filozoficznych i teologicznych traktatów i rozpraw. Dopiero współcześnie w związku z szybkim rozwojem nauk medycznych poświęca się temu zagadnieniu więcej uwagi. Niniejszy artykuł (...) przedstawia poglądy wybranych wczesnochrześcijańskich i scholastycznych myślicieli na kwestię odstąpienia od interwencji medycznych. Zachowane do naszych czasów teksty i opinie różnych autorów pozwoli nam, w pewnym stopniu, zrozumieć historyczny kontekst oraz kulturowe uwarunkowania proponowanych wówczas rozstrzygnięć etycznych. This essay presents a critique of dialetheist readings of Madhyamaka based on the philosophy of the fifteenth-century Tibetan scholar, Gorampa Sonam Senge (Go rams pa bSod nams Seng ge) (1429-1489). In brief, dialetheism is the acceptance that in a logical system there can be at least some cases in which a statement and its negation are true; that is, it involves the acceptance of true contradictions. Jay Garfield and Graham Priest's "Nāgārjuna and the Limits of Thought" attempts to reconcile apparent (...) contradictions in Nāgārjuna's Madhyamaka writings by appealing to dialetheism.1 Tom Tillemans' response to that article, "How do Mādhyamikas Think?" advocates an interpretation of Nāgārjuna that relies on a weaker .. Zdá se, že není nic přirozenějšího, než se spolu s Russellem domnívat, že „máme-li smysluplně hovořit a ne pouze vydávat zvuky, musíme slovům, která užíváme, dávat nějaký význam; a významem, který svým slovům dáváme, musí být něco, s čím jsme přišli do styku“. Naše slova přece musí, aby byla skutečně smysluplná, něco představovat! Od toho se odvíjí běžná poučka, která nám říká, že slova jazyka jsou symboly, to jest (podle Encyklopedie Britannica), „prvky komunikace, které mají představovat osobu, předmět, skupinu, proces (...) nebo ideu“. Problém je ovšem v tom, že není zdaleka zřejmé, co to vůbec znamená něco představovat; a co to tedy znamená být symbolem. V běžném jazyce hovoříme o představování například tehdy, když říkáme, že herec na jevišti divadla představuje dánského prince Hamleta, nebo že krabička sirek, kterou použijeme namísto ztracené šachové figurky, představuje černou věž. Jak vůbec může dojít k tomu, aby něco (nebo někdo) představovalo něco (nebo někoho) jiného? Jednou ze možností jistě je, že to někdo vyhlásí a jiní to přijmou. V programu divadla se například napíše, že se hraje Hamlet, diváci si to přečtou a vědí, že člověk, který pobíhá po jevišti s lebkou, představuje onoho dánského prince. Člověk, který zjistí, že mu chybí šachová figurka, vezme krabičku sirek a prohlásí „Tato krabička bude představovat černou věž“. To je čirá konvence: lidé se o tom, že něco bude představovat něco jiného, jednoduše dohodnou. K takové dohodě sice není potřeba, aby s ní ti, kdo ji přijímají, nahlas vyslovovali souhlas; je k ní nicméně potřeba, aby ji někdo vyhlásil a někdo jiný jeho vyhlášení porozuměl a přijal ho. Z toho ovšem plyne, že o takto konvenční druh představování se jazyk opírat nemůže; alespoň ne obecně. Brání tomu fakt, že k ustanovení takové konvence už jazyk potřebujeme – potřebujeme tedy již nějaká slova, která něco 'představují', mít. Když již nějaký jazyk máme, není problém zavést konvencí další jazyk – jak je to ale s tím prvním jazykem? (Nebylo by možné, abychom konvenci ustanovili za pomoci nějakých pouze 'předjazykových' komunikačních prostředků? Nemůžeme konvenci, na jejímž základě nějaký typ zvuku představuje velryby, ustanovit třebs pomocí pouhého ukazování na velryby? Problém je zřejmě v tom, že rámec, který by byl potřeba k tomu, aby mohlo být to či ono gesto interpretováno jako ukázání, které ustanovuje, co bude daný zvuk představovat, by musel sestávat z tak komplexních komunikčaních praktik, že je opět stěží představitelný jinak než v podobě jazyka.) Samozřejmě, že konvence není tou jedinou cestou, jak může dojít k tomu, že něco představuje něco jiného.. (shrink)

EDITORS’ INTRODUCTION BACKGROUND We are experiencing an unprecedented period where wide ranging and disruptive major global change is taking place around us. In this context, the theme of Mindful Leadership and Sustainable Development provides a point of reference and pathway for understanding the contemporary chaotic situations. These disruptive changes challenge our understanding and meaning of humanity and truly question whether or not, we are able to live in a society where justice, equality, peace, and prosperity abound. In the Buddhist light, (...) a focus is placed on understanding the Buddhist teachings to develop solutions for dealing with these wide-ranging problems. Both the scope of change and the response from a Buddhist approach are core to the content of this volume. It is of paramount importance that any investigation and development of solutions for the changes taking place, require guidance from the Buddhist philosophy. As a starting point for discussion, an initial focus is placed on providing a thorough and critical understanding of the character and context of change. In doing so, we also seek to clarify and outline the nature of a Buddhist approach. In completing this review, it is productive to see that given the complex issues being dealt with, the papers do generate different frameworks and viewpoints within the broad term of “approach.” The frameworks based on the Buddha´s teachings are not fully fixed and agreed upon by all. Therefore, our term “approach” refers to a set of arrangements and viewpoints that act to inspire further discussion and development. Given the above context, this volume is a collection of conference papers presented and published for the panel on the first sub-theme of UNDV 2019 on Mindful Leadership for Sustainable Peace on 13 May 2019 at the Tam Chuc International Convention Center, Ha Nam, Vietnam. The panel commemorates the occasion of the 16th United Nations Day of Vesak Celebrations 2019. Through the contributions of participants and their papers at this workshop, this volume provides a diverse and rich range of thinking and wisdom rather than more traditional mainstream thinking or conventional wisdom. Treating the Buddha’s teachings as a basic theoretical reconstruction, we examine the relationships between societies and Buddhism. We combine the analyses of the conflicts, trends and dynamics affecting future global development with focused studies on a range of policy areas for improving societies. In the Buddhist light, our two most crucial aims in this period of disruption are to greatly increase the influence and impact of Buddhism as our foremost duty; and that the Buddhist responsibility contributes to creating a new foundation for Mindful Leadership and Sustainable Development. Matematyczność fizyki jest zjawiskiem, którego obecność jest dla nas zaskakująca, ale które pozwala nam na poznanie przyrody poprzez analizę matematycznych struktur ją opisujących. Dotyczy to jednak wyłącznie fizyki. Stopień matematyzacji biologii jest niewielki, a próby użycia języka matematyki sprowadzają się w istocie do stosowania w biologii metod matematycznych, których używa się do opisu układów fizycznych. Jest prawdopodobne, że popełniamy w ten sposób błąd przypisując układom biologicznym cechy, których nie posiadają. Pojawiają się głosy, że biologia wymaga nowych metod matematycznych dostosowanych do (...) jej potrzeb, nie znanych z fizyki. Sądzę jednak, że z uwagi na specyfikę złożoności, którą reprezentują układy biologiczne, zamiast o matematyczności biologii należy mówić o jej algorytmiczności. Jako przykłady algorytmicznego podejścia można przywołać tak zwane modele osobnicze używane między innymi do opisu dynamik populacji lub metody modelowania fraktalnego stosowane do opisu złożoności geometrii i jej dynamiki skomplikowanych struktur biologicznych, takich jak na przykład drzewa.
